Military family law: military field sees highest divorce rate

56892262_S.jpgFor most married couples in Illinois and elsewhere, disagreements happen. While this can just be the common ups and downs of marriage, for some spouses, these disputes are monumental. When marital fights run high, this could signify to the spouses that it is best to end their union and part ways. And in some cases, it is the career or lifestyle of one spouse that could significantly impact the longevity of the relationship.

Unfortunately, for military families, divorces are seen more frequently. And in this matter, marital problems are likely related to the military career path of one spouse. Based on current statistics, the military career field sees a higher rate of divorce by age 30 when compared to other career fields.

According to an analysis of U.S. Census Data, the highest rate of divorce in the United States was for first-line enlisted military supervisors. This occupation involves leading operations as well as coordinating the activities of enlisted military members. Researchers found that the divorce rate for those in this field was 30 percent. Following this career field, the net highest rates were for logisticians, automotive service technicians and mechanics and military-enlisted tactical operations and air weapons.

It should be noted that when considering the top ten career fields with the highest divorce rate, three of these are military positions. Because military members face a unique set of circumstances and are working in a field that requires dedication, flexibility and movability, this can cause strain on a family. Thus, some spouses and parents cannot carry on with the added stress and complexities caused by the demands of a military career.

A military divorce is different from a civilian divorce, because it entails addressing factors such as military benefits. Thus, it is imperative that those going through a military divorce understand how to navigate the matter and how to resolve any military family divorce issues.
